Image Name Description
Ridley
Ceres Space Colony
Special Attack: Fire projectiles, Tail lash
Weakness: Blaster
Ridley will appear out of no-where holding the larva and attack, his attacks include lunging at you to slam you against the wall, fire shot out of his mouth, and he uses his tail to try to whip you. Jump him as he flies low, but do not stop firing at him, eventually Ridley will leave with the Larva and the self-destruct sequence will begin.
Chozo Statue
Crateria
Special Attacks: Arm lash, Sonic beam
Weakness: Blaster, Missiles
This Chozo Statue first appears to look like a normal one holding the bomb power-up. Once you take the bomb, the door seals and the statue comes to life. He walks around the screen trying to mow you down and if he comes close, he will lash at you with his arms. This boss is very simple to beat, just use missiles on it and then your normal gun, and it should be defeated easily.
Spore Spawn
Brinstar
Special attack : Swing attack, Mini spores
Weakness: Blaster, Missiles
The Spore Spawn is not very difficult to beat. First, shoot at the small balls coming down the screen to get missiles and energy, dodge Spawn as it bounces around the screen, and shoot it with missiles when it opens. If you are fast you can get three missiles in at a time. It will become darker as you hit it, until it turns to stone when you beat it.
Kraid Spawn
Brinstar
Special Attack: Needle projectiles
Weakness: Blaster, Missiles, Super Missiles
This is basically a normal enemy but there is only one of it. Just shoot it with the Spazer, missiles or super missiles to destroy it.
Kraid
Brinstar
Special attack: Thorn projectiles, Fireball spheres
Weakness: Blaster, Missiles, Super Missiles
He will come up out of spikes and appear to be quite large. Shoot him in the mouth twice when it opens, and he will rise up even further revealing himself to be massive. He throws spiked objects at you and shoots fire out of his mouth. Dodge the flying objects and continue shooting him in the mouth with missiles, super missiles or a charged beam. He will become darker and eventually be defeated.
Crocomire
Norfair
Special Attack: Charge, Plasma balls
Weakness: Charged Beam, Missiles, Super Missiles
Crocomire is invincible to your weapons, but not lava. Use either missiles, super missiles or a charged beam when his mouth opens. You will notice that when you hit him he will move backwards. Keep firing and eventually he will fall into the lava and melt. His attacks are fire shot out of his mouth, and he tries to charge you into the wall with spikes.
Phantoon
Wrecked Ship
Special Attack: Blue plasma projectiles
Weakness: Super Missiles
When Phantoon appears, you cannot shoot at him. He will fire many "raindrop" shaped projectiles at you, but they can be destroyed using your normal gun. When Phantoon opens his eye and becomes solid, shoot him with a super missile. After a few shots he will be vaporised.
Serpent
Maridia
Special Attack: Charge, green fireballs
Weakness: Missiles, Super Missiles
Encountered in Maridia, this serpent is not hard to beat. It flys around the screen trying to hit you and shooting out small green projectiles. It hides in the four holes in the screen and emerges from them randomly. Just shoot the head with missiles or super missiles and it will eventually explode.
Draygon
Maridia
Special attacks: Gun Turrets, Sting
Weakness: Super Missiles, Grappling Beam
This boss can be a bit complicated. His attacks include small grey balls that slow you down if touched, and if Draygon grabs you, he will lash you with his tail that does major damage. Destroy the gun turrets on the walls with missiles and you will notice that electricity will spark out of them. When Draygon grabs you, switch to the grappling beam. As he flies around the screen, fire the beam constantly and eventually it will grab onto the remains of the turret and begin electrocuting you and Draygon. It won't do much damage to you, but it will fry Draygon.
Chozo Statue
Norfair
Special attacks: Arm lash, Sonic Beam, Laser projectiles
Weakness: Charged Beam, Missiles, Super Missiles
This boss is encountered in Norfair. It is much stronger than the previous statue, and a little harder to beat. His attacks are the same as the first Chozo Statue, but this one also fires projectiles at you. To beat it, use super missiles. You will notice that when you fire them at it, it will catch them and throw them back at you. Don't worry about this, just keep shooting them at him when he throws them. If you use missiles, he will dodge them. Use a charged beam if you run out of super missiles.
Ridley Guard
Norfair
Special attacks: Arm projectiles, Ram
Weakness: Charged Beam, Missiles, Super Missiles
You encounter two of these guards just before fighting Ridley. The are invincible to your attacks. They jump around firing projectiles at you to try and slow you down. To beat them, wait until they jump and turn yellow, then shoot them with a missile or super missile.
Ridley
Norfair
Special attacks: Fire projectiles, Tail lash, Grab attack
Weakness: Charged Beam, Missiles, Super Missiles
Ridley is much stronger than the previous encounter. He lashes at you with his tail, fires projectiles out of his mouth and tries to grap you to do some serious damage. To beat him, just fire missiles, super missiles or a charged beam at him and eventually after a long pummeling, he will explode.
Mother Brain
Tourian
Special attacks: Gun Turrets
Weakness: Charged Beam, Missiles, Super Missiles
This is the final boss, the Mother Brain. It does nothing to attack you, but there are many defense turrets around it which fire at you. To destroy it, fire missiles or super missiles at the glass until it breaks, and then keep firing at the Mother Brain itself.
Mother Brain
Tourian
Special attacks: Various laser projectiles, Bomb, Energy-sapping beam
Weakness: Charged Beam, Missiles, Super Missiles
Once you defeat the Mother Brain in the glass case, it will become a huge dinosaur-type creature. It has many attacks including projectiles of all types coming from it. When you shoot it in the head with missiles or super missiles, it will begin to look like it is charging up energy in its head. When its releases the energy, it slams you against the wall and does very heavy damage. Keep firing at it until your energy is about to run out.
Metroid
Tourian
Special attacks: Energy Drain
Just when your energy is about to run out, the Metroid larva, now huge, will attack the Mother Brain. It will turn it to stone and then begin to give you your energy back. As it recharges your suit, the Mother Brain comes back to life and starts firing at the Metroid. Just as your energy is back to full, the Mother Brain destroys the last Metroid. You will now notice that Samus begins to flash. When you fire at its head, Samus now has a new weapon that is devastating - Hyper beam. Keep firing at the head and when it explodes, the time bomb will be set and you will have three minutes to escape Zebes before it explodes.
Super Metroid Endings
First ending: When you complete the game with a total time of over 5 hours, Samus will appear and give you a 'thumbs-up.' She will them jump up out of the screen and come down further away. She then fires her weapon at the screen and disappears.
Second ending: When you complete the game with a total time of under 5 hours, Samus will appear and give you a 'thumbs-up' like the first time, but this time, part of her helmet disappears to reveal part of her face. She then gives you a smile. She will them jump up out of the screen and come down further away. She then fires her weapon at the screen and disappears.
Final ending: When you complete the game with a total time of under 3 hours, Samus will appear like the other two endings. But this time her entire suit disappears to reveal her wearing a black bikini. She then unties her long blonde hair and smiles. She will them jump up out of the screen and come down further away, surprisingly with her suit back on. She then fires her weapon at the screen and disappears.
Added bonus: When escaping Zebes, you have the chance of rescuing the creatures you encountered around Zebes. The bird and 'monkeys' will be hiding at the place where you found the bomb power-up. To allow them to escape, shoot the wall open on the right of the screen. When you see Samus' ship flying away from Zebes, you will notice a small purple streak flying away to the right.
