Secret of Mana Bosses
If there's one thing Secret of Mana isn't short on, it's boss guardians. There are more than 30 bosses in this game, but each one has their own weakness and if your levels are at a high level, they shouldn't be too difficult to defeat. Some bosses will just require you to pound them with a single magic attack!

MP: 20
EXP: 10
GP: 100
Type: Insect

Tropicallo
Dwarf Village
HP: 315
MP: 0
EXP: 80
GP: 132
Type: Plant
Attacks: Pumpkin Bombs
Weakness: None
Attack Tropicallo when he surfaces. Be careful of the pumpkin bombs he spits out, as they'll bounce around and then explode. Keep moving when the bombs come out.
Brambler
Dwarf Village
HP: 78
MP: 99
EXP: 2
GP: 24
Type: Plant
Attacks: Poison
Weakness: None
Make sure you keep clear of these plants while in battle with Tropicallo. They'll come out of the ground and try to poke you with a vine. You can destroy them to make the battle easier.
Spikey Tiger
Elinee's Castle
HP: 520
MP: 21
EXP: 210
GP: 288
Type: Animal
Attacks: Fire Bouquet
Weakness: None
Make sure you are level 10 or over when fighting this boss. His attacks are very strong and he can sometimes knock you unconscious. Have a lot of candy in your pack and use them. Attack Spikey Tiger with short range weapons when he's on your level, and when he jumps up on the ledges use the bow to hit him. Keep moving, as he'll try to mow you down or land on you. Don't touch him or he'll start biting you.
Tonpole
Undine's Cave
HP: 600
MP: 0
EXP: 50
GP: 0
Type: Reptile
Attacks: None
Weakness: None
Attack Tonpole with weapons and it will soon become Biting Lizard. It can't hurt you if it doesn't touch you.
Biting Lizard
Undine's Cave
HP: 770
MP: 6
EXP: 210
GP: 348
Type: Reptile
Attacks: Tongue Attack
Weakness: None
The Biting Lizard is very easy if you don't stand in front of it. Make sure you attack it side on with long range weapons, as it will try to snag you with its tongue and eat you, causing damage. It will use Cure Water, but keep attacking it as it will eventually run out of MP.
Fire Gigas
Underground Palace
HP: 850
MP: 66
EXP: 326
GP: 360
Type: Spirit
Attacks: Fire Magic
Weakness: Freeze
Stay clear of the Fire Gigas and use Undine's Freeze at Level 1. Try to have your levels high, as you'll need about 15 MPs to beat him. When he becomes balls that fly around the room, use this time to heal or charge up weapons.
Wall Face
Pandora Ruins
HP: 300
MP: 99
EXP: 2
GP: 0
Type: Demon
Attacks: Freeze, Magic Absorb
Weakness: Earth Slide
Be careful of the attacks Wall Face deals out. Ignore the left and right eyes, just focus on the center one, as if it goes, the entire boss dies. Attack it with Gnome's Earth Slide, and use weapons if you run out of MP. If the two eyes die before the center one does, the wall will start moving forward, to try to slam you into the spikes at the rear of the room. Just try to beat the center eye as quickly as possible.
Kilroy
Thieves' Ship
HP: 900
MP: 18
EXP: 686
GP: 650
Type: Machine
Attacks: Moogle Hammer
Weakness: None
Use Earth Slide or the Whip on Kilroy. Be careful when he moves around on a wheel as he'll be fairly fast. Stay away from him when he hammers the ground, because if you get hit, your character will become a moogle. His only magic is Speed Up, which doesn't have much effect on him. Just keep attacking him until he blows.
Jabberwocky
Water Palace
HP: 950
MP: 90
EXP: 800
GP: 768
Type: Reptile
Attacks: Acid Storm
Weakness: Earth Slide
Attack Jabberwocky with Earth Slide and weapons. He'll use Speed Down on you, but then just charge up your weapons to hit him. Try not to get bitten as you'l' get poisoned. When one of the heads blows, he'll be close to death.
Spring Beak
Sprite Village
HP: 720
MP: 99
EXP: 1090
GP: 864
Type: Bird
Attacks: Wind Magic
Weakness: Earth Slide
This boss is very easy if your magic levels are high. You can use Earth Slide which is very effective, long range weapons also help. His attacks are very minor, so don't worry about keeping your HP high.
Great Viper
Dragon Cave
HP: 1330
MP: 9
EXP: 1410
GP: 1056
Type: Reptile
Attacks: Gem Missile
Weakness: Thunderbolt
Try to stay out of the Great Viper's way, as he can suddenly charge at you which pygmizes your character. Make sure you got the Midge Mallet before you go to Upper Land. Use Sylphid's Thunderbolt as this is the snake's main weakness. Use the sword on its head, but be very careful when moving around it. You should notice that as he becomes weaker, he will start to move faster, so just don't run out of MP, so that you can attack him from anywhere.
Mech Rider
Sandship
HP: 980
MP: 18
EXP: 1595
GP: 1055
Type: Machine
Attacks: Speed Up, Missile Attack
Weakness: None
Thunderbolt is the best possible way to defeat this machine. Just make sure that its at a high level. Keep out of Mech Rider's path as he is very fast and can knock you unconscious if he hits you. Also you can use long range weapons to finish him off. Try to charge them up as he crosses the screen, so you can get a good hit in before he moves again. The missiles he fires aren't that damaging, but it is possible to dodge them.
Boreal Face
Crystal Forest
HP: 1100
MP: 12
EXP: 2245
GP: 1040
Type: Plant
Attacks: Gem Missile, Midge Attack
Weakness: None
Be very alert when fighting Boreal Face. Attack him when he comes up to the surface, and use Thunderbolt as this will do small but good enough damage. Dodge the pumpkin bombs by standing still until the bomb is just about to hit you, then move. Weapons are good against him, charge them up and then hit him. Remember to watch your HP.
Frost Gigas
Ice Palace
HP: 1140
MP: 99
EXP: 3045
GP: 1200
Type: Spirit
Attacks: Ice Saber, Acid Storm
Weakness: Fire Ball
Fire Ball and Exploder at level 4 smashes him before he can even attack. Weapons also help. Just try to use Exploder as fast as possible to defeat him. You can charge your weapons while he floats around the room in the form of ice orbs if you want. Keep HP high and also make sure you have plenty of healing items.
Minotaur
Fire Palace
HP: 1200
MP: 99
EXP: 3348
GP: 1440
Type: Animal
Attacks: Defender, Earth Slide
Weakness: Thunderbolt
Watch out for his Earth Slides, because they can be deadly. Thunderbolt works well against him. Keep using that until he blows. If you run out of MP or Thunderbolt isn't at a good level, use the whip and attack him from a distance. Eventually, the Minotaur will turn a dark red. Watch out when this happens, because he can suddenly charge at you with his horns extended. This can knock you unconscious, leaving you open for more attacks. Charging up your sword also works, but attack fast if you get close to him.
Dooms Wall
Northtown Ruins
HP: 425
MP: 99
EXP: 1
GP: 0
Type: Demon
Attacks: Energy Absorb, Thunderbolt
Weakness: Earth Slide
This boss is much like the Wall Face. Watch your HP, as he will use Energy Absorb quite a lot. Attack the central eye with weapons, or use Salamando or Gnome if your magic is high. Once again, concentrate on the central eye and you should beat him in no time at all.
Vampire
Northtown Ruins
HP: 2550
MP: 99
EXP: 5148
GP: 696
Type: Undead
Attacks: Energy Absorb, Freeze
Weakness: Thunderbolt
Be careful with this boss, as he likes to grab you and bite you. It can sometimes be difficult to hit him with weapons as he is always flying around the room, so use either Exploder or Thunderbolt on him until he dies. This boss isn't too hard to beat.
Metal Mantis
Emperor's Castle
HP: 1220
MP: 40
EXP: 4749
GP: 1464
Type: Machine
Attacks: Gem Missile, Lunal Boost, Fire Beam
Weakness: Thunderbolt
This guy is just about as easy as the first boss. You can use weapons, and if you do, I recommend charging them up for best results. If your magic is high use Exploder on him and if your quick enough, he won't attack you at all. Try to stay away as he tries to hack at you with his arms. You can also use Thunderbolt.
Mech Rider 2
Emperor's Castle
HP: 1258
MP: 30
EXP: 6013
GP: 1500
Type: Machine
Attacks: Speed Up, Ultrasonics
Weakness: Thunderbolt
Mech Rider 2 is exactly the same as the first one, just with more hit points. Just remeber to stay out of his path as he shoots across the screen, and use charged weapons, or Thunderbolt.
Lime Slime
Palace of Darkness
HP: 2888
MP: 99
EXP: 8000
GP: 3000
Type: Morph
Attacks: Dark Force
Weakness: Fire Magic
Lime Slime doesn't react much with weapon attacks. Make sure your magic is at a high level and use Exploder. He will use Dark Force a few times, but just heal yourself when this happens. You can use weapons, but you have to hit the objects in the center of the slime. He will grow as he becomes weaker, until he fills the entire screen when you beat him.
Blue Spike
Gold Tower
HP: 1980
MP: 99
EXP: 9150
GP: 3840
Type: Animal
Attacks: Fire Bouquet, Fireball
Weakness: Earth Slide
Blue Spike can be a pain sometimes. His attacks are pretty tough so watch your HP. Use charged weapons, and try to avoid touching him. Use Exploder or Earth Slide, witchever is stronger. Magic attacks will do some damage, but not enough, so bring along as many magic walnuts as possible. He will try to grab you and knock you unconscious. When he begins to explode, you'll notice that you can still move. This is because he is faking his death and will continue attacking. When he does this, just keep attaking him and he'll die in no time.
Gorgon Bull
Gold Tower
HP: 2470
MP: 99
EXP: 9755
GP: 4800
Type: Animal
Attacks: Protect, Earth Slide
Weakness: Thunderbolt
The Gorgon Bull is not that tough. His attacks are relatively the same as the Minotaur's, he just has more hit points and better strength. He likes using Earth Slide, and enjoys charging at you so stay clear. Watch out for his horns, as they can knock you down and do some serious damage. Use weapons or Thunderbolt, and he'll go pretty fast.
Dark Stalker
Tasnica Castle
HP: 510
MP: 60
EXP: 1219
GP: 900
Type: Demon
Attacks: Dispel, Acid Storm, Ice Saber
Weakness: Lucent Beam
Not much of a boss, but he still puts up a good fight, well, if you let him. You can finish him quickly with Lucent Beam, or just use weapons. His sword attacks are strong, so stay clear. He won't be that hard to beat.
Shadow X1,X2,X3
Test of Courage
HP: Shadow X1 - 999 Shadow X2/X3 - 800
MP: 99
EXP: 0
GP: 0
Type: Illusion
Attacks: Acid Storm
Weakness: Weapons
These guys can be tough at times. Make sure your levels are high, as their attacks can be pretty strong. They like using charged weapons a lot, so try to stay clear. The only magic that does any good is Lucent Beam, and sabers or Moon Energy can also help. They take a while to beat, but if one of your characters is knocked down, their copy will die.
Aegagropilon
Tree Palace
HP: 3016
MP: 99
EXP: 11050
GP: 1800
Type: Plant
Attacks: Sleep Flower, Wall
Weakness: Dispel, Earth Slide, Thunderbolt
This guy can be really tough if your levels are low. One good way to beat him is to make sure Luna for the Sprite is at about level 7, then use Magic Absorb and drain all his MP. If you do this, all he can do is try to whack you by flying all over the room. Just use Exploder to finish him off. If he uses Wall, use charged weapons and Moon Energy to beat him.
Hydra
Underground City
HP: 3382
MP: 99
EXP: 12439
GP: 3600
Type: Reptile
Attacks: Acid Storm
Weakness: Exploder
Hydra takes a while to beat. Unlike the first one, their heads will reproduce a few times. They use Acid Strom, which can lower your defense, so be careful. He also likes trying to snap at you, so stay away from the heads. Use weapons or Exploder on him and keep fighting even if both of the heads are gone, as he will still take damage.
Kettle Kin
Underground City
HP: 1230
MP: 33
EXP: 15555
GP: 3360
Type: Machine
Attacks: Lunar Boost, Lucid Barrier
Weakness: Dispel, Magic Absorb
Kettle Kin isn't much harder than Kilroy. He uses the same attack with his arms to try and moogle you, but this time you should have the Moogle Belt, so just use that. Avoid his arms, and just use weapons or strong magic like Exploder, Thunderbolt or Earth Slide.
Snap Dragon
Grand Palace
HP: 1215
MP: 6
EXP: 19200
GP: 12480
Type: Dragon
Attacks: Tongue Attack
Weakness: Exploder
If you're fast with magic, this guy won't even attack you. He is just like the Biting Lizard, just stronger with more hit points. He will try the usual attack of trying to eat you with his tongue, so just stay clear. Use weapons or Exploder to finish him off.
Hexas
Grand Palace
HP: 3465
MP: 69
EXP: 20103
GP: 14400
Type: Demon
Attacks: Dispel, Lava Wave, Fireball, Gem Missile
Weakness: Earth Slide
Hexas likes using elemental magic against you. She can be tough, but if you use Magic Absorb, she won't hurt you unless you touch her. She'll poison you if you come in contact, so don't use short range weapons. Just use Exploder or other strong magic to defeat her.
Mech Rider 3
Grand Palace
HP: 4327
MP: 38
EXP: 21104
GP: 16000
Type: Machine
Attacks: Wall, Speed Up
Weakness: Dispel, Magic Absorb, Thunderbolt
Mech Rider 3 is tougher than the first two. He firstly uses Wall, not giving you a chance to attack with magic. His attacks are the same as the other two, but he sometimes plays the fool and casts Speed Up on himself with Wall, so it ends up being cast on one of your characters. You can use Dispel Magic to use Exploder against him, or just use weapons with Moon Energy cast on them.
Dragon Worm
Pure Land
HP: 3525
MP: 99
EXP: 24290
GP: 17426
Type: Dragon
Attacks: Exploder, Burst, Wall
Weakness: Thunderbolt
The Dragon Worm is much harder than it's counterpart the Great Viper. Try to avoid being run down by the worm, as his attacks are rather strong. He'll use Exploder on you, so keep your HP high. Once again make sure you don't get in his path so set the actions to defend so your allies keep away. Use Thunderbolt against him and he'll go down in no time.
Snow Dragon
Pure Land
HP: 2800
MP: 99
EXP: 26588
GP: 18360
Type: Dragon
Attacks: Freeze
Weakness: Fire Magic
If your magic is strong during your path through Pure Land, the bosses will be rabites. Use Exploder on this dragon and try to stay away as he'll use his tail to whip you. His magic attacks are ice-based, so keep HP high as some can be damaging. You can use weapons but it also helps if you use Flame Saber as this will damage him like Exploder.
Axe Beak
Pure Land
HP: 2800
MP: 99
EXP: 27784
GP: 20400
Type: Bird
Attacks: Fire Magic
Weakness: Freeze
Axe Beak likes to use Fireball on you, and sometimes this can be damaging. You can use Wall, but his own attacks won't damage him much. Use weapons with Ice Saber or just use Freeze and he won't be much trouble for you.
Red Dragon
Pure Land
HP: 3000
MP: 99
EXP: 29000
GP: 21
Type: Dragon
Attacks: Exploder
Weakness: Freeze
The Red Dragon is basically the same as the Snow Dragon but opposite in magic. He uses Exploder on you so watch HP. Use Ice Saber on weapons and use Freeze on him and he'll go done fairly fast.
Thunder Gigas
Pure Land
HP: 4462
MP: 99
EXP: 30277
GP: 30600
Type: Apparition
Attacks: Air_Blast, Thunderbolt, Silence
Weakness: Earth Slide
Thunder Gigas can be a little tough at times. He is pretty much just like the other Gigas bosses, though this one uses wind magic. He likes casting Thunder Saber on you, so that when you attack him, it'll do about 3 HP damage. If this happens, just cast Earth Saber. Use weapons and cast Earth Slide. He won't be much trouble.
Blue Dragon
Pure Land
HP: 3200
MP: 99
EXP: 31570
GP: 28560
Type: Dragon
Attacks: Thunderbolt
Weakness: Earth Slide
The Blue Dragon isn't hard at all. He'll use Thunderbolt on you, so watch your HP as you do with just about every other boss. Use Earth Saber on weapons to attack him with, or if the Sprite's Gnome magic is high use Earth Slide or Gem Missile. This guy won't take much to beat.
Buffy
Mana Fortress
HP: 4200
MP: 99
EXP: 35686
GP: 22200
Type: Undead
Attacks: Energy Absorb, Freeze, Dark Force, Wall
Weakness: Lucent Beam
Buffy is nearly exactly the same as the Vampire, just stronger. He uses dark magic against you, and likes to do some physical damage by biting you. Again he'll fly around the room casting magic on you. As he uses dark magic, use Lucent Beam against him or cast Light Saber on weapons to finish him off. He seems to have a lot of HP but he won't take much to beat.
Dread Slime
Mana Fortress
HP: 5000
MP: 99
EXP: 37000
GP: 26400
Type: Morph
Attacks: Gem Missile, Freeze, Wall, Lucent Beam
Weakness: Dark Force
The Dread Slime is not that hard to beat. He uses the same attacks as the Lime Slime did, spitting out those different coloured projectiles that can change your character's status. Again he'll be hard to hit with weapons so use Dark Force on him. Make sure Shade's levels are high, as he'll be the only one who can damage the Slime properly. Dread Slime will attack you with Earth and Ice magic, so if you aren't planning to use Cure Water to heal yourself, Wall might help in this battle.
Dark Lich
Mana Fortress
HP: 6666
MP: 99
EXP: -
GP: -
Type: Demon
Attacks: Dark Force, Freeze
Weakness: Lucent Beam
The Dark Lich is Thanatos' true form, and resembles him quite well. He will use many attacks against you to change your status from unconscious to petrified. He'll use dark magic against you so watch your HP. When he disappears and then comes back just as a head and two hands, do not whatever you do touch the hands as they'll KO you instantly. You can use Magic Absorb to drop his chance of using magic against you, as this helps a lot. Weapons won't do much use against him as he'll do damage if you touch him, so use Lucent Beam as much as you can until he dies. If you run out of MP, use Exploder to finish him off.
Mana Beast
Mana Fortress
HP: 9999
MP: 99
EXP: 0
GP: 0
Type: Dragon
Attacks: Wall, Lucent Beam
Weakness: Mana Sword
There is no hope of using magic attacks against the Mana Beast as he'll cast Wall at level 7. Your only hope is to use the sword. He uses some pretty strong fire and physical attacks, as he flies past doing damage to you. Lucid Barrier will help a lot through this battle, as it will protect you against his attacks. You'll have to keep casting it though, as his attacks saps the power out of the barrier. He'll come down into the screen after a few passes and use Lucent Beam against you. Try not to use Wall as you'll have to heal yourself a lot here. You will now have Dryad's third spell, Mana Magic. Have the hero take the sword and cast using both the Girl and the Sprite's Mana Magic on the hero. The Sword will now have revived, and be at full strength. To make this more effective, use Moon Energy on the hero as well. If your levels are high you'll notice that when you hit the Mana Beast with the sword it will do 999 HP damage. Keep doing this and repeat the process again if the Beast runs off. When you beat him he'll turn white and disintegrate.
